DULUTH, GA (KP) — The identity of today’s Modern
Pharisee is the same as the time of Christ. The Pharisees
placed burdens upon those who desired to serve and worship God, to be
forgiven of their sins. The Pharisees placed hundreds of laws, requirements,
and so-called “godly” ordinances upon the people, knowing
that they themselves could not and would not follow. They placed guilt
upon the people when one of their trivial laws was broken. Then they required
the people to purchase from them the sacrificial animals such as doves
and lambs at inflated prices to eradicate their sins
All along, Jesus knew their hearts and motives of the Pharisees. Jesus lumped the Pharisees with the scribes (writers of their laws; today's equivalent of lawyers) and hypocrites (those pretending to be righteous), and He was not too kind with them. He knew that they were filled with evil desires, claiming to represent God, appearing holy and righteous. And yet, they were filled with secret sins. The Modern Day Pharisee is not that much different in comparison to the Pharisees of the first century. Modern Day Pharisees often employ the same tactics of the same spirit of deceit, lies and corruption, along with the thirst for power, wealth, and/or prestige. Some Modern Day Pharisees are caught up in the things of this world, entwined with government and legalism. They spew the doctrine of financial regulations and requirements, placing further burdens on the unsuspecting. Jesus blamed the Pharisees for taking from widows by convincing them with long prayers and other smooth words. He saw them as religious con artists, having an outward appearance of righteousness but were clearly hypocrites with intentions to deceive. Jesus recognized their eagerness to concentrate on matters of money and partake of worldly issues. He denounced the Pharisees as ones related to those who killed the prophets. He also prophesied that He would send forth His elect and they too will be persecuted, publicly libeled, and purposely harassed and ridiculed. The same spirit exists today in the form of “Modern Day Pharisees.” They disguise themselves as righteous, write convincing articles filled with libel, half-truths, and purposely misleading intentions, all for the purpose of bringing ridicule against the very elect, in attempts to thwart the ministry of Jesus Christ The Modern Day Pharisee attends church services, sings the songs, and mouths the appropriate jargon, all for the sake of appearing righteous before men. The same may become involved in religious organizations activities such as writing for Internet rags and newsletters, post commentaries, become elders and/or deacons, take a role in financial matters of a church organization, and adopt doctrines of men. The Holy Spirit is not so easily deceived. Jesus warned us that His elect will be able to discern the fakes by testing the spirits and viewing their works. Modern Day Pharisees have a tendency to place their trust in liars and troublemakers. Through the Holy Scriptures, they can be labeled as “sons and daughters of hell.” One of the doctrines of the Modern Day Pharisee pertains to money. Many of them believe in abiding in worldly matters such as a ministry must file as a tax-exempt corporation, establish themselves as a business and be held accountable to money watchdog groups such as Michael Barrick’s WallWatchers. They believe that if a ministry/church organization does not abide by their worldly business standards, then that same ministry/church organization is considered suspect of “shenanigans and skullduggery common to the traveling evangelists.” ETC has failed to abide by one of the partaker's worldly standards and has been criticized for the same. Even the so-called “historian”, Imma Hogg of Coldsession, CT has been severely critical against Ken Parks. ETC Ministries remains conducive to the standards of the Holy Spirit as outlined in the Holy Scriptures. Modern Day Pharisees use terms such as “Stewardship” in their approved rating of non-profit organizations, those who are listed as tax exempt, 501(c) through the Internal Revenue Service. If a person gives to a rated non-profit ministry that meets their standards, then they are considered to be good stewards of God’s money. Generally, Modern Day Pharisees are legalistic within the confines of their religious organization, maintain a strict adherence to the tithe-doctrine, and are critical of those who they claim are poor stewards of God’s money. In other words, the “poor stewards” are those who do not give ten percent or who may contribute to ministries not meeting their worldly business standards. Jesus recognizes Modern Day Pharisees as a generation of vipers, serpents,
sons of hell, liars, murderers, wolves, and blind hypocrites. And he unmercifully
pronounced the same “woes” upon the Pharisees of old.
